Machine Parts

This series explores our relationship with technology. Redundant machine parts are used to create pieces in various media. Barbara is interested in the paradox that the technology we create to enrich our lives is contributing to our possible extinction. And that, in some ways, we are becoming machines.

From a formal perspective, the artist is inspired by the forms themselves and how they can be used compositionally. She uses the machine parts to draw from, and sometimes she embeds them into another media. Used packaging, cut into shapes by machines, also inspires work.

“I am fascinated by the bits from computers and electronic parts, the exquisite engineering. They look beautiful to me.” Gowan
